EMPLOYER LIAISON

There are currently over 3 million working carers in the U.K.  Work is important for well-being, income and to keep social contacts 

Many working Carers are juggling work with their caring responsibilities at home

The Carers Centre recognise that to continue to work and care you need support and understanding from your Employer

Did You Know....

• You may have the right to request flexible working to help you in your caring role

• You are entitled to a free assessment of your needs which may result in services to support you to access work or education

• You may be entitled to funding to pay for a break from your caring role

The Carers Centre have begun work with local Employers to raise awareness of the needs of working Carers. 

We are asking these organisations, big and small to sign up to the 'Employers Charter For Carers'.  This indicates that they have made a commitment to support employees who are also Carers in their home life.  They will work in partnership with the Carers Centre to devise and implement policies and procedures which will support those of you who have caring responsibilities.  They will identify a designated Carer Liaison Officer who will be able to offer support and advice to any member of staff.  They will also agree to attend training to help them understand more about the rights of working Carers and the support Carers need.

Once they have signed the Charter they will be expressing their commitment to becoming an employer of choice to Carers.  The award of the Charter Certificate will indicate to both current and potential new employees that the organisation aim to make a positive difference to the lives of working Carers in the borough.  They will be listed as a Charter Member and Partner Employer on this website, with links to their own website.  They will also be able to use the Charter logo on publicity materials and stationary.
