Caring With Confidence

 

Caring with Confidence is a new national programme for Carers and St Helens Carers Centre runs the sessions at the Centre for local Carers.

 

New programmes start regularly and consist of 7 sessions to assist you in your caring role. The next programme begins on 14th September 2011 and will be held in the evening to allow Carers who work to attend.

The sessions include:

 

Session 1 - Finding Your Way
You'll recognise your own strengths and how you can use these in your caring role. Discover simple techniques to tackle some of the challenges or problems you face.

Session 2 - Caring And Coping
Explore and practice coping skills that you may find helpful. Plan things you can do in the future to help you cope with stress and other difficult emotions.

Session 3 - Caring And Me
Identify small and simple changes in your diet and physical routine that can help you feel better. Try out some simple relaxation techniques. Explore ways of coping with feelings of low mood.

Session 4 - Caring Day-To-Day
Feel more confident to deal with the physical aspects of looking after the person you care for and their medication. Being aware of the essentials facts on emergency situations at home; dos and don'ts of moving and handling people; and managing medication.

Session 5 - Caring And Resources
How you can maximise your income and access other resources, Caring and Resources helps you identify ways to save yourself money as a carer.

Session 6 - Caring And Life
Taking time out to think about how you juggle competing demands and how your caring role fits with other aspects of your life.

Session 7 - Caring And Communicating
Caring and Communicating helps you get the best from communicating with other people. Be able to confidently communicate with the professionals and service providers you come across in your caring role such as GPs, social services etc.
