hardship fund for carers

The service is officially opened by the Princess Royal as the Centre is now a member of the
Princess Royal Trust for Carers national umbrella.

St Helens Carers Centre was established as a Charity was successful in applying for a large
lottery grant to start a service. Charity is also registered as a Company Limited by
Guarantee. The Charity Trustees are all Carers.

Service commences from small offices based within Millennium Centre and the local
authority and pct give small amounts of funding. The Carer Service provided by the local authority ceases and their clients are asked for consent to transfer to the new service (under 300 in total)

Local St Helens residents who are Carers come together by themselves with the intention of
forming a support group. These Carers with the help of the local branch of Carers UK and a small lottery grant undertake Carer Road shows across the borough. These road shows establish more Carer Support groups and bring more carers together to investigate the setting up of a Carers Centre
