Hospital Based Work

Our new hospital based Carer Support Team are now operating from St Helens & Whiston Hospitals.

The team can be contacted on 01744 646 640 and are currently led by the acting Project Co-ordinator, Anthea Smith.

In addition to Anthea, there are 4 Carer Support Officers and a specialist Carer Income Maximisation Officer.  The workers are employed by St Helens Carers Centre but as a result of partnership working have been embedded into the Hospital with a permanent base.

Over the coming months the team will be working with several different departments to ensure all Carers are identified and treated as equal and expert care partners in the diagnosis, treatment and discharge of the person they care for.

The team are also there for any Carer who would like information, advice or referral to the local Carers Centre.  In addition, the Carer Income Maximisation Officer will be providing a specialist welfare benefits service on site to people caring for people nearing end of life or with terminal illness.
